"My goal is to take everyday objects and change the ordinary
into the extraordinary."
Painting with watercolor has been my passion for the past twenty years.
Teaching architectural computerized drafting full time, year round,
leaves me evenings and weekends to paint. Getting involved in several
art organizations, keeps me current on the latest art trends. Memberships
include Wednesday Night Painters, Pittsburgh Watercolor Society, Greensburg
Art Club, Latrobe Art League, as well as being represented by Latrobe
Art Center. I have been accepted
into Pittsburgh‘s
Aqueous Open, Pennsylvania’s Watercolor Society International Exhibit
and Baltimore Watercolor Society’s Regional. I’m also a Signature
Member of Pennsylvania’s Watercolor Society.
For subject matter I prefer still lifes, because they are readily available.
Photographs give you a flattened version of a “round“ subject;
therefore I prefer to paint from life. I usually do a quick pencil sketch
on the paper and then jump right into the watercolors. There are a variety
of ways to begin – wet brush into wet paper, wet into dry or dry into
wet, and I use them all. Watching the exciting way the paints behaves on
the paper is very exhilarating. My colors are always the primaries - red,
yellow and blue in different hues. Catching the essence of the different
shapes of the still life is all that is necessary. I try to keep the painting
fresh and allow the first vibrant washes to shine through.
Painting to me is just pure simple FUN!
