ARTICLE ONE - MAY 2009

With pleasure, we announce the Second annual "An Evening in the Neighborhood II." The Silent and Live Auction will be held Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at the Latrobe Country Club.

The 2009 event realized a profit of $39,574.82 thanks to you, your beautiful donations and the work of the committee. The committee is looking forward to an equally rewarding evening this year. We are honored to announce that Mrs. Nancy Rogers Crozier, one of the founders of the Center, has agreed again to be honorary chair for the event. The Latrobe Art Center wishes to pay tribute to Elizabeth Ogden Hazletted (deceased) co-founder. The fact that good friends, Laney and Libby came up with an idea that turned into reality, and has been such a success for the entire community is a tribute to both women. Their goal to have an Art Center that would be a resource for the "neighborhood" has been realized.

Eighty-eight local artists have been fulfilling the mission of the Center since its inception by providing exhibits, educational programs, speaker events, socials and many other valuable programs. Our mission is to foster creativity for anyone who desires to discover, learn and create art. It is our intent to provide programs for all ages to discover their aritstic interests in a welcoming and encouraging enviornment. Six different themed shows throughout the year provide local members the opportunity to showcare and sell their work. For non-members we offer a "featured Artist" exhibition in which the artist is given the chance to be able to have a one woman/man show and market his/her work for a two month period. There are classes and workshops for all ages open to the public, taught by local and national artists.

Our location affords groups from nearby preschools, daycares, and of course, Latrobe Elementary School, and Christ the Divine Teach School, the opportunity to visit and participate in an interactive program in walking distance in the neighborhood. We have also had boy and girl scout troops and students from Unity Township, Derry and Ligonier preschools take advantage of our free programs. Close to two hundred students and adults have been involved in our free program "Art Among Us." Visitors are often amazed when we give a guided tour, that most of our exhibiting artists are local residents.

The idea of having Latrobe Art Center as part of our neighborhood where the public is encouraged to come in to visit, participate and appreciate local art and artists is truly the realization of what both Elizabeth Ogden Hazlett and Nancy Rogers Crozier envisioned.

Please mark your calendars and be on the look out for our Save the Date Postcards in June and our invitations in August. If you are interested in attending, please call the Latrobe Art Center and they will add you to our mailing list. 724.537.7011

Thank you in advance for your participation, enthusiasm and interest.
